Genealogical Society (MCGS)

The Moody County Genealogical Society (MCGS), non-profit organization, is dedicated to preserving family histories of Moody County and South Dakota.

Meetings are held at the Moody County Museum in Flandreau on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend.

The Society works closely with the Moody County Historical Society in recording area history. As a society, interest in genealogy is promoted. We encourage, educate, and instruct in the art and practice of research and promoting genealogical standards. The importance of accuracy and documentation in genealogical research is stressed.

The Society locates, preserves and indexes public and private genealogical records and makes them available for research. The research library contains print and non-print resources including microfilm, microfiche and old town histories. Society members also answer queries and do research to help others locate their ancestors.

An index of all cemeteries in Moody County is being compiled. Future plans are to combine this index with those of other cemeteries in South Dakota.
